On Tuesday, I went to one of my favorite places in the world. Cedar Point. I've been going there every year since I was like 3. I spend the night at my cousin's (who you should really meet Jessica, cuz he loves Disney more than you. Hard to believe but true. He also thought it was cool that you got an internship with them) house on Monday and we left for Sandusky, Ohio at 8 A.M. It was HOT. And pretty humid too. The worst kind of weather for a Cedar Point trip, but it was still fun. I achieved all of my goals for the day, so the trip was a success. The only coaster I didn't get to go on was the Top Thrill Dragster. It's a cool ride, but not worth the long wait. It's good to go on at least once in your life, but if you don't get to go on it every visit, don't feel bad because it's not that great. People mainly think of roller coasters when they think of the Point, but it has other offerings as well. Here are some of the other things you can do at Cedar Point:1. Steamboat, Train and Bonesville- If you wish, you can take a steamboat tour of the park. It's kinda cool, and just a way to relax if you're tired. It's not a long wait and not many people really know about it. If you don't feel like walking all the way to Frontiertown, which is in the back, you can take the train. It's alot faster and easier than walking and you get to see a nice view of Lake Erie. Also if you take the train that leaves from Frontiertown, you get a tour of Bonesville. It's basically a bunch of robotic skeletons doing weird things. It's really goofy and cheesy, but I think it's kinda funny too.
2. People Watching - With so many people in one place, you see alot of interesting things. I'll share some of the highlights of my day later on. Even if you don't like amusement parks, this aspect of Cedar Point is well worth the admission.
3. Restaurants - All the restaurants in the park have good food. There's Coasters, which is a 50's style diner with good burgers, the Midway Market, which is an inexpensive (for Cedar Point standards) buffet, and yesterday we stopped at Joe Cool's Cafe, which is a Peanuts themed restaurant. It wasn't any more expensive than Applebee's, so that was good. I got a Buffalo Chicken salad, and it was tasty. There's also a Johnny Rocket's and some homestyle buffet that I forget the name of. The restaurants are probably a better deal than any of the vendors you buy from.
4. Shows - There's a couple of shows you can go to. There's a weird auditorium thing that used to hold dolphins, then they turned it into a diving show for people, and now it's an extreme sports arena, but they weren't having a show the day I was there and I probably wouldn't have gone anyways. There's also Snoopy on Ice if you wish to cool down. But my favorite shows are the musicals they have. One is a Saloon type place and they really like to have the crowd participate. One year, my dad had to go on stage and do the Can-Can. He did it completely wrong and it was embarrassing. For me at least. But this year, I went to a show called "Signed Sealed Delivered" which featured all music from the 50's and 60's. They tricked me with the title, cuz I thought it was going to be mostly Motown music, but the only music from that genre was two Stevie Wonder songs, an Aretha song, and one from The Supremes. I thought they shoulda just focused on the Motown aspect and sung mostly that, but they sang alot of songs that I feel only senior citizens could recognize, cuz I'd never heard alot of them. And they only had two black singers. You need more than that.
5. Beach - My favorite thing to do towards the end of the day is go to the beach. You just have to get stamped at the exit so you can get back into the park and after that you can enjoy the nice little beach they have there. It's really relaxing to just stand in the cool water after you've been walking around all day. The sand is fairly nice, not the greatest, but the water is pretty clear there. Maybe I just like it so much because I never go to beaches any other time of the year, but would like to.
Here's just some interesting things I noticed while I was there:- A middle aged couple grinding up on each other to music outside of Johnny Rockets. They weren't even eating at the restaurant and it probably ruined the actual customers' meal. It was just weird. And their kids were right there too.
- I was on the carousel and there was one kid running around the carousel outside who was pretending he was on a horse and was making a whipping motion. He was fat too, so it was just humorous.
- There is a lot of couple activity throughout the park. One couple was making out on a bench. It was disgusting. First off, nobody needs to be kissing that aggressively in the first place, secondly, do it in private, not in public.
- Things guys do to impress girls. It's mainly the high school guys, but there's a bunch of adults that do it to. They're always trying to draw attention to themselves by doing the most obnoxious things. If I ever act like that, punch me in the groin. Not the balls, the groin, it won't hurt as bad as the nuts, but it's close enough to send a message.
- Cleavage, cleavage, cleavage, cleavage. It is everywhere. It is annoying. I know some girls can't help it, but I hate that I can't look anywhere without seeing half a boob.
- Lots of foreigners work at Cedar Point. I don't understand why. It's hard to understand them too.
- Here's a funny story. At least I think it is. We were in the car of the Blue Streak and the workers have to go through the safety procedures and while they were checking the seatbelts, instead of snapping the seatbelt, this lady snapped the elastic of my cousin's shorts. Neither of them knew what to do or say, so they just kinda stared at each other for a while. Then she apologized alot and he was still kinda shocked. He got more than he bargained for on this ride.
- Another story. We were on the swing ride and this little kid outside the gate was crying for his mom. He was crying for like the whole time and his mom yelled "you better stop or I'll take your gun!" (in reference to the toy gun he had bought at the park). Everybody's heads whirled around to look at her cuz she had just yelled gun, but then people realized what she was talking about. She was a little embarrassed.
- All the carnival games are a rip off. You could spend so much money trying to win prizes, but alot of them are just unfair. But sometimes, the customer is at fault because they're an idiot. There's a 3 point shooting contest and if you get 4-6 points you get a small stuffed animal, 7-11 points and you receive a basketball, and 12-15 points you get an NBA jersey. It's 5 bucks a pop and we were watching it for a while and this one guy was there forever. When we got there, he was already really sweaty, so he had obviously been doing it for a while but we watched him go 5 times. It was pitiful. He never got better than a stuffed animal and probably spent around $40 on this thing. You're already guaranteed to spend $50 MINIMUM for admission and food, so anything more is just ridiculous. Stupid.
Well this is already an extremely long post, so I think I'm done.
